Art and Design
The learning experiences offered through the Art and Design course include Drawing, Painting, Using Media, Materials and Techniques, Problem Solving, Designing, Knowledge and Understanding of Artist’s and Designer’s and their work, and Analysis and Critical Evaluation skills.
The course is skill based, and is practical and creative. On completing the course learners will have experimented with a range of 2D and 3D media, will have Investigated, Researched and Developed ideas for an Expressive theme, explored a Design Brief through the stages of the design process, and through personal selection, developed an understanding of Artist’s and Designer’s working practices.
The course is built around Expressive and Design activity and is project based. Central to learning are the features of problem solving, planning and evaluation skills within the creative process.
Aspects of the National 4 and 5 courses will be learned and pupils will be able to apply the skills developed for progression to the full National 4 or National 5 course in Art and Design in S4.
All work is internally assessed and will be based on performance in producing a range of creative visual investigative research and development work and ideas, in Expressive and Design activities, and knowledge and understanding of artists and designers, and art and design practice.
