Course Overview

Our S2 course follows the Experiences and Outcomes outlined in Curriculum for Excellence.  

Methodology

Performance based activities either solo or in a group on a choice of two instruments from Keyboard, Tuned Percussion, Drum Kit, Guitar, Bass Guitar and Ukulele.

They will also study topic based activities such as African Music, Musicals and Rock & Pop music.

Teacher-led discussion, cooperative group work and formative assessment strategies are used to give pupils the opportunity to demonstrate and improve their performing skills and knowledge about music.

Assessment

Each unit has an associated performing, composing or understanding music task to assess musical skills, knowledge and understanding. 

Homework

The department supports a positive homework policy.

Homework is set to prepare pupils for the written assessments. The occasional homework assignment will require pupils to carry out research in their own time.

Recording and Reporting

Performing assessment results form the basis for the comments in the pupil report issued to parents in February. These results are also used to inform decisions about likely progression in S4, when pupils who choose to remain in the Music Department will study Music at either National 4 or National 5 Levels.
