Our S1 course follows the Experiences and Outcomes outlined in Curriculum for Excellence.
Performance-based activities either solo or in a group through a range of taster sessions on Keyboard, Tuned Percussion, Drum Kit, Guitar, Bass Guitar and Ukulele.
Pupils will also study topic based activities such as Latin American Music, Blues & Jazz, Instruments of the Orchestra and Rock & Pop music.
Teacher-led discussion, cooperative group work and formative assessment strategies are used to give pupils the opportunity to demonstrate and improve their performing skills and knowledge about music.
Each unit has an associated performing, composing or understanding music task to assess musical skills, knowledge and understanding.
The department supports a positive homework policy.
Homework is set to prepare pupils for the written assessments. The occasional homework assignment will require pupils to carry out research in their own time.
Recording and Reporting
Performing assessment results form the basis for the comments in the pupil report issued to parents in May. These results are also used to inform progression and choice of instruments in S2.
