S1 Home Economics

Course Overview

In S1, our pupils attend for 2 periods every week.  1 period is a practical cookery/sewing lesson and 1 period is theory based.

Foods of the World

Ready Steady Eat

Pupils will take part in a range of practical cookery lessons including: Fruit Salad, Italian Toast, Apple Crumble, Vegetable Wrap, Big Breakfast, Scone, Crispy Cakes, Vegetable Soup, Shortbread, Savoury Risotto, Kinross Cookies, Chocolate Truffles, Savoury Chicken Cous Cous, Smoked Mackerel Pate, Banana Choc Rocks.  Pupils also take part in tasting sessions of  traditional  Scottish food stuffs and chocolate.  They also develop their own muffin recipe.  (Recipes are subject to change).

Textile lessons are  based around pupils making a personalised felt cover eg for a mobile phone/calculator/wallet or a cushion using a sewing machine. 

The anticipated cost of the course is £30. This is to cover the materials for sewing and ingredients for cooking.
